NYARLATHOTEP's music was born out of a deep love of Black Metal and the writings of the great horror master H.P. Lovecraft. Formed in 2007 they released an EP in 2008 entitled "The End Is Always Near" and only now in 2014 are releasing their debut album.

Entitled "The Shadow over Innsmouth", the album is based on one of the best stories written by the master of horror. This is a very difficult review to write because, depending on how you go at this record, you can have two vastly different reactions to it.

Looking at it as an "art project" you will regard it as bordering on geniality, almost a masterpiece, the low quality of its production, especially on the vocals, can be seen as a perfect choice to deliver the feeling of horror that such a work needs, however if you go at it looking for a good quality solid record you won't find it here. For precisely the same reasons I have listed before, the low quality of the production and vocals, you will find "The Shadow over Innsmouth" an unbearable record.

This is a love or hate it type of record, for me it happened being the second option. NYARLATHOTEP's debut album although promising an interesting journey fail to deliver it, it just ended up being another pretentious record with long low quality badly produced songs.
