Coming December 4th 2020, Greek/Swedish Melodic Death Metal band NIGHTRAGE will be releasing their demo album "Demo 2000" as a way to celebrate their twentieth anniversary. "Poems Doomed to Oblivion" is the second single, following the release of "At The Ends Of The Earth" on June 5th.
As guitarist Marios Iliopoulos explains, the demo was recorded by Gus G and himself with a drum machine. The sound is certainly rawer than their official output since debuting with "Sweet Vengeance" on 2003, but both singles released so far show the clear passion and vision of the project in the two original members mind.
What can I say about "Poems Doomed to Oblivion" itself? It certainly treads a balance between Post-Grunge ballad and more traditional Melodeath sound. Gus G vocals do the job even if they don't shine too much, but overall the track mostly manages to sound cohesive even when it shifts tempos and goes from soft to aggressive. It's a competent track that hints at the strengths of the band.
2020 has to be a weird year to be celebrating such a landmark as your twentieth as a band, but it seems quite appropriate that so many bands and artists have been looking back to their roots or to somewhat simpler (thanks in a huge part to nostalgia-tinted lens) times. "Demo 2000" sounds interesting, especially for fans to get a pick into the first stages of the band.
