The bio sheet contained in the promo CD didn't mention the band's line up, their Myspace profile has some photos without even mentioning who is who (so it just helped figure out this band has four members, hooray!) and I was just sure about three of those members, the ones mentioned above. Anyway, fuck that! I don't even care about the band's line up; let's get to the music people!
What we have here is a Colorado, USA based Black Metal band that is alive for a bit more than a decade and has released various demos and split CD's, but only two full-length albums (including this one). The underground Black Metal scene will never change its ways, hahaha!
So, NIGHTBRINGER didn't make a good impression on me at first, since I had some kind of prejudice regarding the band's name. Too cliché, don't you think? Anyway, "Apocalypse Sun" drove away any doubt with its aggressive, yet somehow atmospheric Black Metal. NIGHTBRINGER have managed to retain the beautifully sick atmosphere the US Black Metal bands have (LEVIATHAN, XASTHUR etc) while adding a lot of fury into their music. With a chaotic sound and a totally apocalyptic scenery building up behind the songs (yes, they totally justify the title they chose for their album), NIGHTBRINGER seem able to easily attract the attention of the listener, the fact is how much can they hold him there, since I have to admit that even though "Apocalypse Sun" seems like a simple album at first, it contains this destructive sound and some chaotic song structures that may end up sounding tiring to someone with not so "trained" ears.
All in all, NIGHTBRINGER seem like a good investment for the future. There is nothing in here that will make them the next big thing, but these US blacksters seem to have found a sound that fits them, and damn they can handle it great!
