Nothing Changes
Negacy
Toughed up Italians putting on a mighty show of force, a small token of Heavy Metal gesture right before the arrival of their upcoming new album, a means to freshen up your mind regarding their existence on this Earth. These guys are called NEGACY, a newfound reincarnation of an older band by the moniker of RED WARLOCK. As they stated, it is a fresh start. I see it as a test of their will to absorb both past and future into a single fist. This here offering, under their new name, "Nothing Changes", via the local label Jolly Roger Records, actually emphasises otherwise. No matter the change of name, the heart within remains loyal where it once was, to the thickest layers of Heavy Metal music.
Frankly, I was quite sure what to expect from these guys. Nowadays when a band tags itself as Heavy Metal, it merely a matter of personal perspective as the genre has been showing signs of development in the past 20 plus years. On the other hand, after a few listening sessions with this too short EP, I was awarded with the opportunity to listen true Heavy Metal toughness, pounding hard, delivering the goods by the codes of the past but also with sneaky modern eye towards the present. "Nothing Changes" confines similarities and mixtures of acts such as NEVERMORE / ANGRA / PRIMAL FEAR / MORGANA LEFAY under the same roof, which means a whole lot of power thanks to the aggressive guitar riffing of Andrea Giribaldi & Gianni Corazza, a few technical twist and turns that slightly converge on the riffery and bombastic soloing but also featured on the rhythm section efforts of Tony Rassu & Claudio Sechi , encouraging flow, yet also emotional motifs serving as elevation, especially if you count the superb vocals of Marco Piu that showed a tremendous talent behind the mic.
Though original songs have always taken first place on my bill when I am reviewing albums, rarely do I start with a cover version of a classic song. On the other hand, NEGACY amazingly delivered a hard and heavy assimilation of one of the top tracks of Dio's era with BLACK SABBATH, "Computer God". First time for me to listen to such a driving heavy and well crafted version, particularly the vocals which honored Dio's memory for certain. Onwards to the originals, "Flames Of Black Fire" showcased the band's modernized force that might also send you to various places in Metal rather than traditional form along with a captivating chorus. "Nothing Changes", even if not opening the album in a big bang, is what NEGACY is trying to do here, create a profound legacy of Heavy Metal in modern days, a kind of Metal that is both cracking, catchy and deep with enough vigor to last for years. I suggest that you would closely watch out for these guys' upcoming album.
