Hailing from Greece, NECROVOROUS was first created in 2005 by Vangelis F. (Shit Eater - Drums) and Periklis G. (Pig Fucker - guitars/bass/vocals). This band are inspired by Death Metal and Grindcore, such as AUTOPSY, HELLHAMMER, NECROPHAGIA, and DEATH. They have long been influenced by gore, and devastation. We are advised before listening to this record "Plains of Decay" that in order to avoid fainting, we should "keep on repeating '...It's only a record... It's only a record... It's only a record...'". When listening to "The Sun Has Risen in a Land I No Longer See" the deep grumbling vocals and wavering guitars immediately drew me in. Guitars sting with the ascent of their off-tune progressions, while tempo changes add contrast. On "Cherish the Sepulture" tight tremolo guitars make an impact along with the drums. Vocals are deeply heavy and beastly, like the attack of a boar at night-time.

"Eternal Soulmates" is not the romantic ballad you may expect from the song title, but rather tells of a tragic story, through the discorded tones and violent riffs. "Psychedelic Tribe of Doom" paints us for war with some fast tom-drum fills and a persistently pacing rhythm. All flows together fluidly, like a whirlpool of water, devouring all around. There's nothing to hang on to here, as the music dives into alternating sequences of speed, and slowed reverberation. The repetition here brought me into a kind of trance, maybe like the one created by the psychedelic tribe of doom that this song is named after.

"Red Moon Rabies" is as diseased as it sounds, as a short and intense ripping away of the tremolo guitars, drums and vocals - at 0.59 seconds long. "Misery Loves Dead Company" has strenuous as guitars increase in sustaining tension and pitch. The last track "The Noose Tightens" rounds off the album, as a grim conclusion to the story. Vocals lead the way from the start with slow, tension building bass-filled riffs. It all progresses with a guitar melody that is dis-harmoniously repeats into the distance. Generally, I found "Plains of Decay" to have a more 'grim' than 'gorey' atmosphere, in my opinion. Ghastly moments have spawned from the gutsy vocals of Periklis G. (Pig Fucker), while the full band achieves a dark dirtiness in their sound. The tracks carry forth a tone of old school death metal. Though, despite classic influences, the tracks are well recorded and produced.
