"Perdition" - a state of eternal punishment and damnation into which a sinful and unrepentant person passes after death. Never have I heard an album name that sums up an album as well as this one. Italian Death Metal group NECROSY release their debut full length album following their previous EP from 2014.
As I stated in the very first sentence of this review, I have never heard an album name sum up an album as well as this does, the entire album from start to finish is complete and utter ruin and carnage. The first track "Drown Into Perdition (at 320 BPM)" is chaos. What does chaos sound like, you ask? 320 beats per minute of raw Death Metal is the answer. Now, this song does have a tendency to sound almost fake in parts. To me these drums sound like the Death Metal version of auto tune to Pop music; very generic and false.
Fast forward two songs to my absolute favorite track on the album "Flesh Script". It's dark, heavy and in your face and at this point you learn to almost block out the pots and pans sounding drums and enjoy the rest of the music. Cut to around two and a half minutes in and there's a great little guitar solo to treat yourself with; nothing over the top or flashy just a nice little solo to please your eardrums.
"Impulsive Whisperings" soon follows and it's a force to be reckoned with. It's extremely varied; the catchy guitar riff mixed with the drums (I'm done ripping on them, I promise) and even at around one and a half minutes there's a little melodic piece. As if that wasn't enough variants there's also a few of seconds of some dark, atmospheric tunes. This is my close second favorite track on the album.
The songs on this album have a habit of sounding the same, bar one or two slight variants, but it's still good. If it isn't broke, don't fix it; unless it's the drums. Sort them out please, blast beats are great but when you sound like a child hitting pots and pans, you have a problem.
This is a great debut and my negatives are relatively minor. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for these guys in the future, they seem like a great addition to the genre.
