Remnants

NECRODIUM are an awesome Death Metal band from Finland. A new find for me to keep a keen look out on. Extremity from beginning to end left me rattling my head like an insane fool on a seizure fit. From impressive pig squeals to Death Metal done rightly, with only 4 demos spanning 6 years in between of each release, we finally have a full length album known as "Remnants" which is a blinding Death Metal session in its own right.
This is one of those bands where lyrics are very hard to understand but if you are like me and enjoy lip syncing without even knowing the lyrics then this shouldn't be a bother to you, this is what lyric booklets are made for though, but I can promise to my Death Metal brethren, "Remnants" will blow your balls off like a scorching flamethrower would.
Still quite a new band, but having been around since 2006, releasing a few demos in between, 2015 we finally get a full-length album and my word, if you were a fan back then and still are, you're in for a treat. This is one of the best Death Metal albums I have jammed to this year, which is saying a lot for a band with only 1 full-length studio album in the space of 9 years. "Remnants" isn't too long an album, but with bands like DEPRAVED PLAGUE, NECRODIUM also enables me to repeat until my head falls off. It's that good.
Starting off with a typical introduction "Voices Of The Wheel" that sets the mood off nicely for the incoming carnage to come, setting off with a dark but eerie opening, we blast into "The Vengeance (From Within)" that instantly thrashed my head into oblivion, and that is exactly the next track from which I realized I would be talking about next... I began the pounding and air guitar quickly, see, already I'm going nuts. The quality continues reminding me of a similar riff from a certain CANNIBAL CORPSE song... "Into Oblivion" positively had my "fisting" motion pounding hard. Come to think of it, the CANNIBAL CORPSE reference is strong right now... "Torture Test" has a more Death Metal Thrash tone to it, which in a sense is basically the entire album.
"Remnants" is a very short album which feels more like an EP, but the longest track on the album is the final one, "Remnants Of Claustrophobia" sounding almost identical to the rest, but has more of a atmospheric darker side to it, nice and long but again, when albums are as short as this one, SLAYER's "Reign In Blood" and DEPRIVED PLAGUE's "Systemic" then they are easily replayed gems.
Not much else I can really say here, except that was a fascinating listen and this is exactly how all Death Metal should sound like. They knew how to implement Thrash and Death just like all Death Metal should sound like really, despite sounding very similar to CANNIBAL CORPSE that doesn't bother me too much, it's a gem in its own right and shouldn't be overlooked especially for you cannibal maniacs out there.
Overall, while it was a short album, "Remnants" delivered a fine production, feeling more like an EP in my opinion, but a re-playable, kick arse gem. All fans of CANNIBAL CORPSE would love this.
