Greek blackster NATVRE'S continue where we left them on Wrath with their new Early Cvlts, out for Argento Records. Opening this release we find Tundra, an instrumental intro with a synth over a distorted background to remind us in some way of AMORPHIS Tales from the thousand lakes intro: although different and less soothing, we can breathe here some Scandinavian cold air. The party starts with some CARPATHIAN FOREST reminiscences, Night of the Sun, as Death of the Earth, show strong influences in the late 90's black metal scene.

While the album as a whole is a chaotic and raw black metal release, laced with some catchy tunes and somewhat melodic attitude, as in Early Cvlts and Prototype II, the real surprise is the closing duo, Prehistoric Technology and Spelleogenesis: the first being a somewhat trip hop take on NATVRE'S soundprint, based on distorted vocals and stoner stained riffs. The latter is a psychedelic trip toward drone energized spaces. Reverbed and wide atmospheres are laid and bound to the other tracks in a seamless way: we clearly find a reasoned songwriting and album design behind it.

Melodic moments give this release some break times, useful to listeners to greet and hug the whole product: thin and easy to digest on some sides, deep and layered on others, Early Cvlts is a fine gem of ordered chaos, violence distilled with intelligence, brave enough to explore beyond the boundaries of experimentation.
