Let's start with this: I hate EPs, I don't think that they have a meaning, especially when you release an album every two years. Surely I disagree with the think that the band released an EP in order not to be forgotten by its fans. If you are a fan you don't forget. MY DYING BRIDE didn't release an album for three years, but none of the fans forgot them.

Anyway, enough with the bitchy remarks about the EPs. NACHTMYSTIUM was formed in 2000 by Blake Judd and Pat Noctis McCormick. They started as a Black Metal band but in the way and with numerous lineup changes their music got away from the Black Metal scene, mixed with other genres of extreme music, but without forgetting their roots.

Well, I'd say that this is a mediocre release. Bones is truly an interesting track, with sick blastbeats, samples from bells and some nice bass lines, although predictable as a composition. As for the other three, unfortunately they don't have anything to say. Life Of Fire sounds like a leftover of their previous album, or let's just say that it has similar sound and atmosphere as the songs in Assassins: Black Meddle Part I. Next on the line is Hellish Overdose, a VENOM-like song, but nothing special. Again it is predictable; it did pass and never touch. As for  Pitch Black Cadence... it may sound like the first track but, in my opinion, it is a bit boring. It may have an up-vibe tempo and a SLAYER-like solo and nice sound on the guitar but it is nothing of interest. You can't have only one good song with these things.

Overall, Doomsday Derelicts EP is floating between all the other mediocre releases of our time. I'm waiting for their next full length album to see if they still have it.
