The Depressive/Melancholic approach in Black Metal appeared back in the 90's, near the coming of the SWOBM. It has its roots in BURZUM albums, especially on the approach used on "Det Som Engang Var" (1993) and "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" (1994) times. Obviously the genre evolved and gained other influences throughout time, and today, the genre is blooming where Metal scenes are strong. One country where such musical genre seems to have a strong appeal is on Germany, and NACHTIG is a fine name. And now, after two Demos, the band finally releases its first full length, "Nachtig".

In reality, NACHTIG has only one member, and V. V. musical insight explores deep melancholic ambiances, but always bearing the crude approach of earlier Black Metal works on the 90's. And the use of long songs with funereal atmospheres created by guitars and keyboards parts seems to catch some influences from bands of Symphonic Doom Metal as well, and some clean moments can be heard as well. Obviously, it's not the first work of such genre, but the personal approach used on the songs is really very good. The sound quality, as the previous words show, is guided by a crude and rusty approach, remind some moments of the Black Metal bands' releases between 1991 and 1995. The instrumental tunes are really those artisnal ones used on the past, but always keep all the things clean and comprehensible.

There are 6 songs on the album, and as the readers can imagine, all of them last more than 7 minutes. But the bitter and aggressive approach on the funereal chants of "Der Tag Bricht An..." and of "Die Waldhexe" (both with excellent guitar riffs and nasty shrieked voices), the agonizing rhythm of "Der Todestanz" (very good and simple approach on bass guitar and drums), and the hypnotizing aggressiveness of "Mein Grab" (more than 11 minutes of the purest melancholic Black Metal you can think of) are the best moments of the album.

Maybe NACHTIG can evolve a bit more, but for now, what is presented to the fans on "Nachtig" is really very good.
