NAAT is a Post-Metal/Doom Metal band from Genoa, Italy. This is their second full-length album and first in 4 years. They wanted to remake and rework the songs from the first release and go in that direction but after a while they decided otherwise. They felt something was missing so they came back in the studio and worked almost three years on this new release.

NAAT was formed back in 2014 with members from various Italian Stoner bands including ANTEA, LILIUM and STONE SMOKERS. NAAT does go in a different way in their musical direction and they tried to redefine the preconception of Post Metal and add their own little twist. They blend a number of different styles including Post Metal, Doom Metal and Sludge Metal. They pretty much raised the bar on the Instrumental experimental experience and kind of reinvented the wheel. I think they didn't want to fit into one category and decided to make waves in their own right.

It's unlike anything I have heard before and I do enjoy the Post Metal genre. It may be a genre that I was able to discover a bit later than most but they took the best things of the genre and put it in their music. I can hear the influences of bands like NEUROSIS and ISIS throughout the release but I also can hear the instrumental cornucopia of a band like RUSSIAN CIRCLES. You can also hear the influences of Sludge Metal bands like MELVINS or even EYEHATEGOD. You can hear the distorted bass lines especially on ''The Moth'' and that Bass player is really incredible, he does an awesome job on this album and sets the tone!

Nothing really overlaps on any style or substance. Each particular genre is mixed seamlessly into a melting pot through experimental composition. It's the type of music you could hear on a movie score (or even in a post-apocalyptic video game like Doom or even Unreal Tournament, it can be haunting but it has that everlasting presence. It stays with you after you listen to it and it has that effect on you.

I would like to say that the artwork is pretty awesome. It's very original and it's actually the guitarist Francesco Calzona that does the cover art. Other than being a very good guitarist, he is an accomplished artist and he does a masterful job in his own right. It is one of the most ambitious albums of the year and a very unique experience. If you like bands like RUSSIAN CIRCLES, ISIS and early TOOL, you will absolutely love this.
