This is the second release from MUSTASCH that falls into my hands for a review. If I recall well, their previous album did not make such a good impression on me, not meaning that it was a bad album. Since this band plays one of my favorite genres, I will totally forget about their previous work and see if this band has made any real progress. Will they manage to surprise me this time? Only time can tell.

MUSTASCH is a Swedish band that hails from Gothenburg. The release I have reviewed was 2006's EP Parasite!, which was also released through Regain. If I am not mistaken, this is their first full-length work that is being released through Regain, since the band was a part of EMI's roster (where they released three full-length albums). This time I will have the chance to listen to a complete work and not just a single or an EP.

Parasite! contained only five studio tracks and a live track. This time I have to face eleven studio tracks, something that will definitely make me have a complete and much fairer opinion on the band's music. While thinking about the whole concept I came to two conclusions. Either Regain has found a new big name or the label should better stay focused on the more extreme genres, as it usually does. This review will be the answer to my dilemma.

MUSTASCH is a band that plays a Heavy Rock/Stoner band (I recently come across many Swedish Stoner bands, is something wrong?) that is based on groove and riffs that plan to make your head bang a bit. Many of you may feel a bit more comfortable if you know that Ralf Gyllenhammar is the ex singer of the Swedish metallers B-THONG (RIP). Anyway, MUSTASCH's new full-length effort gave me the impression that although the band is still faithful to the groove, they have added much more melody to their music. This is something that takes the band into another level that cannot be characterized as 100% Stoner anymore. The sound is much more like a melodic Heavy Rock band. I even found some violin stuff in a track (or more). I can admit there were times the band reminded me of classic Hard Rock bands like SCORPIONS! In Latest Version Of The Truth the band seems like it is possessed by the 70's spirit. Imagine a mixture of SPIRITUAL BEGGARS with bands like SCORPIONS, URIAH HEEP and DEEP PURPLE, as well as some LED ZEPPELIN. The production is fucking incredible and this adds some more quality to the overall result. Even though MUSTASCH's brand new album is a pretty interesting case, I can't say that I was impressed or something like that.

I am still trying to understand the element that is absent from this band's music. I mean this band lacks of something that could make me really like their music. I have almost the same feelings that I had when I was listening to their Parasite! EP. Good but not strong enough to make me rate this album with more than...
