Today we have another debut release, this time from the Parisian Death Metal quartet MUERTISSIMA. Their debut album, released back in October, titled "Inquisition" is a 10 track record delving into some hard hitting beefy riffs and some brutal traditional Death Metal. The artwork is brutal, a depiction, I assume, of the infamous Catholic inquisitions of the middle ages, it might not be the most gory or outlandish artwork out there, but for what it is it is harrowing.

Opening the record is "Lockdown" (I wonder what the influence for this could have been?..) And it does not mess around, no frills and no waiting. Launching straight into the heavy and unrelenting riffage it just delivers blow after blow of solid punchy music and I cannot wait to see what is to come. "Rise And Fight" takes the foot off the gas a bit, but that guttural and deep instrumentals really help MUERTISSIMA deliver a destructively powerful performance. I mean seriously, get some decent over ear headphones and feel that music just resonate deep within you, it is SUBLIME.

"Godslayer" again just keeps sticking to this musical blueprint, but each track has its own little accentuations that defines it as its own being. The structure and flow of all the tracks has been fantastic and with every track I am seeing myself at the show, in the pit and I am just loving every second of this. "Glory To Loki" batters away at my ears, the guitar squeals mixed in with the devastating growls adds another dimension to this, almost reminiscent to an "Ashes Of The Wake" era of LAMB OF GOD and they are nailing it. "Libertad" see's the record out and it is... well. It is bizarre. A classical guitar piece thrown onto the end of one of the most brutal Death Metal albums that I have heard for some time was really not what I was expecting. But you know what? I liked it, it gave my blood pressure a bit of time to come down and meant that the cat would come back into the room without feeling like she was being screamed at. A classy touch.

Overall, another barnstorming debut album for a young group. If this is what they are producing now, I can only wait in quiet, impatient, anticipation for their next instalment. And I have every faith that MUERTISSIMA is just going to go from strength to strength.
