Stoner Rock / Metal has been one of my favourite genres for a long time and when I came across a new band with a new album release, I couldn't resist. American Stoners MOUNTAIN TAMER release their 2^nd full length album "Godfortune Dark Matters" this August 24^th and it does look promising from its album art work.

The album starts with "Faith Peddler", which has a cool roadie stoner vibe to it. The think faint vocals work perfectly fine along with the thick juicy riffs and the mid-tempo drum beats.  "Funeral of a Dog" is much more groovy and has some really cool fast riffs. The vibe is dark and trippy though. The song has some echo vocals, which is something that I have never heard in a song before in the way that these folks have executed it here, and it actually works. "People Problems" is less impressive with its casual rusty vibe. The 2^nd of the 2 part songs "Living in Vain" is much sludgier compared to the Stoner / trippy 1^st part. It still has the gang vocals which combined with the trippy guitar work, takes you to a roller coaster ride that you never asked for. "Nectar" is more of a soothing 100 min instrumental Stoner song, which doesn't fit the in the album in my opinion, but is a cool track on its own.  "Primitive Control" is very experimental in nature with its breakdowns and techno stuff and when you experiment a lot, it's a hit or a miss usually, and this leans towards the miss category for me. "Wretched" is a much slower Stoner song. It's a cool track on its own, but offers nothing new to the listener in the album. "Mydnyte" is a much enthusiastic song, with some really cool drum beats and guitar work. "Riff Dealer" is one of the finer songs in the album due to its fast paced and heavier nature. It's chaotic, but beautiful, and what a great song title. The album ends with a cool riff driven 7:44 min song in "Head Over Heels". Don't miss the scream the word 'Satan' around the 6^th min.

The trio from San Francisco have created something unique and beautiful here. There is uniqueness and joy written all over the album. Its hypnotic, its lucid, and it's a time stopping album. It has its issues, but if you are a Stoner Rock / Metal fan, pick this up blindly.
