Moonspell - Extinct album cover

So ladies and gentlemen I am proud to say that today we have a real treat for you all. It has been three years since MOONSPELL released their incredible "Alpha Noir" which without any doubt was one of my top favorites of 2012. Now three years later the band have released something so deep and powerful that it is just impossible to not love this record, but I'll let you all be the judges of that ladies and gentlemen.

This is MOONSPELL with their new record "Extinct!".

So I wanted to start this one off with the opening track "Breathe (Until We Are No More)". From the very start the song impresses me with a gentle yet dark opening performed to keep us both on edge and intrigued at the same time. I can see that the band are looking to take the listener to a new level with this dark yet beautiful melody that continues to carry on as vocalist Fernando Ribeiro gently performs a light, and delicate form of singing to accompany the medley that is playing in the background. This song brings though beyond anything is suspense which builds to the pounding of drummer Miguel Gaspar bass drum leading into a small chorus type melody which soon returns to the pattern that this track has already put into motion. I feel that this track is able to keep me interested based on the fact that it is able to keep interesting as it is, the song is able to bring me into a different view with every stroke that this song takes as it continues. One thing I find incredible is the haunting feeling that this song takes every few seconds but as well I love how the tone changes from light to dark just like that, it goes to show that MOONSPELL have truly worked to perfect a masterpiece when it came down to creating this song.

The next song I decided to go into next is the albums fifth track "The Last Of Us". From the start again I am just blown away on how beautiful and dark this track really is, it starts of just right, the way you want it and the way it is, it is just mind blowing to see how with this record the band have been able to blast out some of the most well structured sounds I have ever had the pleasure in listening to. The mellow melody of this song is a straight up love song that takes you on a journey that allows even myself to explore the fascination of what this dark romantic song can take me to, it is simply a song for lovers who have promised even love after death and that is simply the beauty of what this song truly is. It is in many ways catchy and I just couldn't help but feel the groove to this song straight up, it really is something that I believe cannot be unheard, it is a son that really sticks to you and takes you to places that you never really expected to go to in the first place but hey there you are just minding your own business when this gong kicks in and creates the perfect atmosphere for love and eternity.

To conclude: This truly is a masterpiece which I hope that the band are proud of in every way possible, this is easily one of my top ten for this year so far just because it shows that the band have taken their time when creating this and shows that the bands future is very bright, or in this case dark.
