Amanita Kingdom
Moon Coven

MOON COVEN is a self-professed "psychedelic Stoner Rock band" from Sweden. Regardless of how I feel about the band or its music, I hate those types of titles because of the negative connotations they stir up. I love this style of music and yet I am not a stoner, nor do I take psychedelic drugs. We need to come up with a better way to categorize this style of music. How about "Retro Hippie Metal"? Ok listen, I don't have all the answers, but at least I have the right questions right?
Ok, back to MOON COVEN. Very cool stuff. "Amanita Kingdom" sort of blooms as you listen "Ruler Of Dust" starts off the release in a very straightforward manner, giving you an intro as to what MOON COVEN is about. By the end of part I of the title track, this disc starts to spread its wings. I enjoyed how these songs are mostly vocal driven, which is something growing increasingly rare in today's music, regardless of what style it is. David Leban's vocal melodies are driving these songs. Nobody overplays. I could have used a little more guitar exploration, especially after I found out that there are three of them playing.
I recommend "Amanita Kingdom" for anyone that likes old school, fuzzed out, bell bottom, Flower Metal..... Whether you do drugs or not.
