Monumentor - Medusa's Throne album cover

Paying a tribute to other artists, especially the ones that inspire one to write new material that would add another dimension to older classics, is an important move and in a way an integral essence of most bands. The band MONUMENTOR has been writing material that will emphasize their deep rooted influences that focus on the true form of early Black and Speed Metal. Probably most people that would listen to their material would announce it as Heavy Metal, yet they will be in an error.

This group that consists of two core members plays old school Metal in the vein of VENOM, CELTIC FROST, HELLHAMMER and even early SODOM. As you might notice after listening to their newly EP, "Medusa's Throne", via High Roller Records, there is no shred of extremity but only the classic stuff of the old times with just a little dose of evil and lore of the occult with no Satanism on the side.

The release is so 80s oriented that even the production sounds as if it was produced back in the early 80s. Here you can add the rough nature of the release that is also a strong 80s aspect. I think that MONUMENTOR didn't really care if their material will sound bombastic or not, nevertheless, the four songs on display, besides of being pretty common to this kind of genre and one of them is actually worthy than the others, presented a deliverance that turned out rather dull without any melodies, other than solos, to liven things up. "Primitive Beast" is the only one where one could really integrate with this music.

I have no problems with what was done on the album and I respect this duo's efforts to set out the truest thing, yet MONUMENTOR should b reserve a small room for the composition of much more interesting riffs that would stick their head up following the heritage they present. We'll probably it would happen anytime soon up until the band's debut that would probably out soon enough.
