Psychedelic Rock outfit MONSTER MAGNET have made quite an impact on the music industry over the past couple of decades; when they announced the release of a re-imagining of a particular album I'd be lying if I said I wasn't the slightest bit fascinated. I didn't even know you could re-imagine an album until MONSTER MAGNET came up with "Milking The Stars:  A Re-Imagining Of Last Patrol". It's basically the same songs from the same album tweaked around a little, I call this product the Frankenstein album.

For the past few days I have been listening to both "Last Patrol" and it's re-imagined doppelganger back to back; I wanted to hear for myself if frontman Dave Wyndorf's statement about the album was true, that it sounds like a completely different record. After listening to both albums again and again I can concur that this is in fact correct.

This new creation starts off with "Let The Circus Burn" that made the listening not quite as easy at first but after the first ten seconds I started to recognize the amazing sounds of this new favourite band of mine. I loved how the songs still had a tinge of familiarity throughout even though the songs sounded completely different to how they sounded on "Last Patrol".

My personal favourite re-imagined tracks included "Hellejuah (Fuzz And Swamp)", "I Live Behind The Clouds (Roughed Up)" and "No Paradise For Me"; these provide the perfect samples of how a track can be tweaked, fiddled with etc. to create something new. I particularly loved the sound of "Hellejuah (Fuzz And Swamp)" since it sounded completely different from its heavenly counterpart, the contrast worked incredibly well.

This re-imagining business was an incredibly risky thing to do but this risk worked for MONSTER MAGNET as they created a treat for fans of the band and Psychedelic Rock in general.
