Sempiternal Drive
Miss Vain

Conceptions must reside in the experience, what means that when dealing with a description about a band’s music, the best to be done is to hear the release by yourself. Conceptions fall apart due the fact that a band’s music doesn’t need to obey a model, but it can go far that some people are used to do. And it’s a very good idea to deal with “Sempiternal Drive” - the new EP of the Finnish Rockers of MISS VAN - in this way. The sonority is something great, clean and defined to the point one can understand every single arrangement of the instrumental without problems; on the other hand, the levels of distortion and aggressiveness were set in a way that allows the band’s melodic appeal clear.
It’s truly fitting on what they unleash. Musically, their music could be described as a form of Alternative Metal/Rock, because traces of Grunge Rock (in some moments, traces of ALICE IN CHAINS can be heard on the vocals and backing vocals), Heavy Metal (with the Finnish Metal DNA clearly heard on the melodies), Hard Rock, Pop, New Metal (due some screamed vocals) and others can be heard on the mix. But don’t be confused: their musical work is consensual and flows in a form that’s hard to resist.
“Now or Neverland” presents a Pop-like outfit with some Finnish Metal melodies on the guitars and very good bass playing on groove moment; “The Alchemist” brings the band to a form of Stoner Metal/Groove Metal contrasting with melancholic moments, with charming vocals contrasting with some grunted tunes; combining accessible melodies on the chorus with a heavy weight comes “Remedy”, with very good drumming; fine keyboards introduces “Demon Spawn”, another song filled with clear Finnish Metal melodic elements and some charming screams. And “Sempiternal Drive” brings the band to another moment filled with contrasts of weighty parts and modern/Alternative ones filled melodic traits.
Hard to describe, easy to like, “Sempiternal Drive” is the band’s second EP; but MISS VAIN is mature enough for a full-length. Open your eyes and listen to it!
