It's a known fact that MESHUGGAH are one of the pioneers of the progressive /djent genre and over their 25 years as a band they have gathered a extremely loyal fan base which only grew stronger when they released each album. The Swedish metallers have decided to have the "I" E.P remastered as an anniversary release to the world with live tracks added to it to make it even better, there is no possible way that this E.P could be improved.
The E.P starts out with it's title track "I" which already is even better now it has been remastered as it gets even heavier with each minute that goes by but for anyone who has never listened to MESHUGGAH before then they maybe absolutely terrified by the sheer ferocity of the song. "I" has what every other MESHUGGAH track has except this is possibly the heaviest the band ever went with the exception of a few tracks, it has Jens Kidman's roaring vocals screaming at you, Tomas Haake's rapid blast beats with Fredrik Thordendal and Marten Hagstrom pulling out hypnotic guitar solos and riffs but no one can forget about Dick Lovgren hitting the low bass notes which truly give MESHUGGAH it's unique twist. Despite the track being 21 minutes long it is never boring in the slightest as it is constantly changing with each minute that goes by, "I" is a great track to listen to if you want to hear great metal.
Next up are live tracks of ''Bleed'' and ''Dancers To A Discordant System'' which when you hear them automatically make you wish you was in the audience at a MESHUGGAH concert due to the heaviness, the songs were recorded during the ''The Ophidian Trek'' world tour which was last year but you can only imagine that they would be even heavier in person a year later. Both recordings are flawless to listen to, it's hard to tell which is the album version and what is live at some points which obviously means it's great. If you're unable to see MESHUGGAH live then these two tracks are the next best thing.
The last track of the album is ''Pitch Black'' which some fans may have heard before as it was released before but most people haven't, overall it has the classic MESHUGGAH sound you can see on all their music they have released except just a little bit slower and a little more haunting. Fredrik is simply outstanding in this song as it truly highlights his talents along with Dick pulling out some sweet bass notes despite ''Pitch Black'' being slower than some of their usual music, this is a track which is impossible to be disappointed by though ''Pitch Black'' is a song to celebrate the instrumentals and not the vocals.
Overall this re-issue is a great thing, "I" is a classic track for most MESHUGGAH fans and with all the bonus material it's made this small E.P into a masterpiece. The re-mastering has only made the 20 minute song heavier whilst the live recordings put you right in the moment with the band.
