Melvins - The Bride Screamed Murder album cover

This one is definitely going to be one of the most bizarre reviews I've ever written. And that's because MELVINS is not just a band that you can write down their history, their previous full length albums (17 in I remember correctly) and the EP's over those 27 years form their birth and 23 from their first release.

Not to mention that just trying to put them under a label is doomed. These guys write truly progressive music. This is the third album were Buzz and Daleb have Jared and Coady, from BIG BUSINESS, with them and it seems that they "have it" as a team since the heaviness alongside the jams inside the tracks are still here. The opening track "The Water Glass"'s double drumming and the "melody" of the lyrics are influenced by the marines march-songs and remind me the Top Secret Drum Troop from Switzerland. You have to see and listen to them! Anyway back to MELVINS and "The Bride Screamed Murder". This album is as good as it should be. It's not a breakthrough for someone that knows the way MELVINS writes music (the others that like crazy rhythms and innovation in their music and don't know this band are probably living on another planet) but, it's more heavy and experimental than "Nude With Boots" and with crazy as hell riffs that stick to your mind. Not to mention the cover of "My Generation", were they take the song and literally change it completely. Just like any cover should be.

"The Bride Screamed Murder" is an album that fans of MELVINS have already bought. It may not be their best album or their more straight-forward one, but if there are people out there that love their music being strange, experimental, with jams, double drumming and heavy riffs...do yourself a favor and buy this album.

Highlights (OK, it's the whole album but...): "Electric Flower", "Evil New War God", "Inhumanity and Death".
