Demonology

Melodius Deite

Wow, what a great release of this Thailand Prog/Power Metal act!
June 27, 2024

Thailand is a far country from the main axis of Metal in the world (meaning Europe and the USA), but it seems to have a strong scene due some mature band and musical works heard from there. And even on genres as Power Metal, there are many good names there that can face titans with known names. One of them is the quartet MELODIUS DEITE, and here they’re back for one more round with their fifth full-length, “Demonology”, and it seems to be a conceptual album. The band’s musical work is based on a formula of Prog/Power Metal usual for acts from Brazil and Finland (a high technical accuracy, catching melodies and many fast tempos), with many huge melodic structures that will catch the hearers’ attention.

But the fans will have a taste of Neoclassic Metal and Hard Rock elements due the high technical level of the guitars and keyboards as well. And it’s not a hard kind of music to deal with (it’s the opposite: it’s extremely hooking), and even some moments with extreme Metal traces (as heard on “Full Moon Howls”). The band left the responsibility of creating the sound quality to Biggie P. Phanrath (the band’s guitarist/drummer/keyboardist), with the mixing and mastering being done by Raúl Abellán. The final result is something clean and defined, allowing everyone to understand all, the arrangements and melodies without problems. And the fine artwork of
Sirayu Kanuchdit amazes the fans. And as guests, here are the vocals of Jinn (as The Watcher), Petter Hjerpe (as The Vampire), Raphael Dantas (as The Werewolf), Arina Sinebryukhova (as The Witch), and María Cobos (as The Banshee), all representing a character on the songs.

“Knights of Heaven”, “Heroes Strike Back” and “Prepare for Battle” are the instrumental songs that are filled with a neoclassical appeal, and “Prologue of the Devil”, “March of the Empire” and “Infinite Battle Cry” are instrumental ones to create the right ambiences for the album. Musically, “Lucifer (The Fallen Star)” (fine rhythmic shifts with careful instrumental arrangements, especially on the guitars), “Prince of the Nightfall”, “Warrior’s Heart and Soul”, “Full Moon Howls”, “Witchery”, “Overture of Silence”, “Lament of the Banshee” and the new version for “After the Rain” are everything that a Power Metal fan wants to hear on an album, with many surprises (remembering: if this album is conceptual, the changes of ambiences is a need to create the right conceptual feeling that is needed).

If you’re a fan of Power Metal, Neoclassic Metal, Prog/Power Metal or just someone with good taste, “Demonology” was done for you. So listen to it and pay respect to MELODIUS DEITE.
