When it comes to music, you have the ability and choice to go whichever way you choose. When it comes to AOR, that is one of those musical directions that you either love or hate. Apparently, there is nothing in between those two. Well, there is, you can find it very enjoyable all the way up to loving it. I definitely fall into that last category. So, when I was rewarded with the latest MECCA album called "Everlasting", I was glad to have the opportunity to do another record is the softer side of the Metal and Hard Rock spectrum. The fact that it was released by FRONTIERS MUSIC SRL on April 11th, 2023, only made it just a tad more interesting. Especially as I had never heard any of their earlier music.

So, the question now, on the basis of my views of "Everlasting", is whether I am willing to venture into the past to find out all there is about MECCA. To be quite honest, I'm not entirely sure. The reason for my reluctance being that, although I am thoroughly enjoying the music that is presented to me, I can't find myself enveloping it completely. It's just not captivating me the way I would expect or hope it would. And that is a pity, as what MECCA and "Everlasting" are offering isn't bad at all.

On the contrary, the songs are quite good, have a solid body, a proper start and always an ending that is very suitable. But also very predictable. Maybe that's my issue, that it just doesn't surprise me, doesn't put me off balance. Something that I need when listening to have my interest piqued just that little bit more. So, although "Everlasting" is quite a good album, for me it is just missing that extra ingredient that is needed to enchant me. Make me fall in love with it.

And to put your mind at ease, the musicians are all of a very hight standard. From the singer to the drummer, they know what they are doing, and they are playing to their hearts' content. I'll try to phrase it in a way that is more susceptible for the people who might be interested in MECCA, despite my review; this is good music for those who are the real lovers of AOR. For everyone who likes it, like me, I advise you to listen to "Everlasting" before deciding purchase.
