Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster - II album cover

Let me make something clear right from the start. An ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND copy/paste logo and a Stoner wannabe style do not make you a really good and groovy band. Did you get it? It is more than just trying to be somebody else to create something that will grab the listener's balls and make him worship the miracle of music (the groovy one to be more specific).

The band was formed in 2004 in Birmingham, Alabama. Their name comes from a story where a woman (Maylene) and her family committed crimes back in the 1920's or something like that. If you want to read the whole story, you can visit their official website. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2005 through Mono Vs Stereo Records and tours with acts like POD, THROWDOWN and ZAO followed. They signed a contract with Ferret in 2006 and now they release their second full-length effort.

Regarding the music now, MATSOD is almost what I mentioned in the first paragraph, a band that tries to be something that it cannot be. I am sorry to say this, but Taylor's vocals are something more than irritating. It is like a screamo guy tries to sound like Lemmy! The riffs are really good ranging from melodic catchy lines to groovy Stoner style shredding. The rhythm section is more than just decent, but the whole effort seems to lack of some personality. It is not a bad album, but it is an album that I personally didn't manage to listen to more than three times. The first time I listened to it, it seemed a bit interesting, the second time just decent and the third time it started getting a bit boring. There is nothing special to attract your attention in II. I really do not know how to comment this album.

If you know Ferret, you will probably know the style of its releases. I really do not think I can tell you if you have to buy it or not. Think for yourselves carefully before doing anything.
