MAVORIM is a German black metal band who formed in 2014. It was a one man project by Baptist but on the third full length "Non Omnis Moriar" has Valfor joining on drums. I reviewed their previous album, "Axis Mundi," and found it impressive.  How does "Non Omnis Moriar" stack up against it? Very well—this album is just as good, if not better in some aspects. I like the production better because the guitars sound more detailed and less buried behind fog. Overall, this album better balances a sound between raw and cleaner values. No offense to Baptist but the drums are much better this time around; of course being louder in the mix helps out a lot too. Much like the previous effort, this album combines traditional elements of the genre with melodic ones. Add in subtle but atmospheric keys mixed with occasional passages and the result is a cleverly written but intense blackened ride.

The beginning and end of the album is capped off by an intro and outro. Honestly, both of them are rather pointless and don't add anything essential to the listening experience. However the other eight tracks are exceptional. "Unendlich ist ihr Krieg," begins with riffs that buzz with energy, combining a harrowing dizziness with melodic approach. The drums compliment the riffs as they roll along with the blackened growls/screams, creating an infectious groove. After the first verse, the song returns to the opening but this time with keyboards that raise it all up. The lead guitar on "So hell wie ein Stern," gives the song instant dynamics as the rhythm pushes for momentum...Around the 2:17 mark, the tempo slows down as the riffs grow a bit thicker. This muddied approach is the perfect backdrop for the short counter melody that leads into the vocals as they drip venom over the music. The song is subtle as it speeds up towards the end, the renewed energy highlighted by bursts of drums.

The music is high speed melodeath during the opening moments of "Engel, ich komme zurück," before the song goes for blood with riffs that are as sharp as they are groove filled. The vocals are biting and unrelenting throughout, giving the song a maddening feel. From 2:52 to 3:36, the song loses its grip on sanity then brings it back around to intense moments with whiplash speed. The last two full tracks are the best on the album, "Im Kampf" and "Ich klage euch an." The former has thrash styles riffs that speed their way into intricate melodies and harmonies. The clean vocals are catchy and add extra epicness to the song. The later spends the first half alternating between fast and slower paced moments before more thrash elements return and ram themselves into the blackness for devastating effect

No question about it: Mavorim's "Non Omnis Moriar," is capturing lighting in a bottle twice. This band is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with.
