MARTIE PETERS bounced back with "Unfinished Business," his first album in over ten years. In the late 1990s's and early 2000's he fronted the Sleaze Rock band PUSH, with whom he released four albums. He also released two albums under the current moniker in 2004 and 2007. "Unfinished Business" contains ten new tracks.

"When the Circus Hits the City" features the silky, confident voice of Martie Peters over an easy listening riff. The chorus comes at you full on, with a key change and some melodic notes. "She's got a Secret" opens with a jovial little riff and some feel-good, bluesy guitar notes. It swings with some vocal harmonies. The chorus is a little thin but there is no denying that crunchy guitar riff. "Win or Lose" has a different sound from the opening guitars...somewhat solemn at first but hopeful later. The hopeful tones are actually quite wonderful, and this is an undeniable winner on the album. A slamming guitar solo followed by a keyboard-led bridge really sets this song off.

"No Win Situation" opens with a thick and heavy guitar riff and some keys. The song breathes a bit better than previous tracks, talking about "cut me loose, it's a no win situation." Some of the chord progressions seem a bit odd at times but they keep going back to the chorus. "The Devil's Bargain" opens with keys taking the lead and the guitar riff underneath it in support. Martie sings in an emotive fashion, with his smooth voice calming the listener. Take it in, take a ride with him through this song. "Chasing Shadows" opens with bass guitar and piano, and an air of mystery. The main riff has a mesmerizing rhythm to it and it pulls you in. It has a somber, mellow tone overall, as the practice of chasing shadows would ultimately lead to. "Don't Kill the Messenger" has a heavy, and slow opening riff that leads to some keyboard ambiance in the verses, and a slightly more raucous sound in the chorus. It might be the heaviest song on the album.

"Walk Tall" features Martie's expressive vocals and a slowed down, more emotional sound. It could be the "power ballad" on the album, with piano and acoustical guitars, but the sentiment seems quite genuine. And the guitar solo is fantastic. "My Dreams Die Hard" opens with a solid riff that is as smooth as it is intriguing; there's a little mystery that builds leading up to the chorus. "Rat Race" closes the album. Opening with keys leading the way and lush vocal harmonies, it leads to a mid-tempo sound with a bit of a thin chorus. A guitar solo rounds out the sound.

Overall, not being familiar with Martie Peters before doing this album review, I'd say his ten year absence did not affect this new album at all. There is a wide variety of music presented here, which means he still has a lot of offer. There's something about his silky, smooth voice that is easily to fall in love with. Bravo!
