Right off the bat an EP from MALTHUSIAN, after releasing a Demo on 2013 , the band is progressing into an EP named "Below The Hengiform", hopefully it will open the gates for a full album soon . MALTHUSIAN are from Dublin in Ireland, playing a mix of Black and Death Metal.
So the ep consist of only three tracks, I will make it fast; maybe we are talking about only three tracks but when you combine the listening time you get 24.30 minutes of pure earth breaking Black Metal , three tracks that are longer than some of the full releases I have reviewed before. Regarding the music, it can be described less than a mix of Death and Black and more like Black meets Doom. All of the tracks feature sluggish rhythms with a pitch black tempo that changes to a black storm descending upon you. I have never had the chance to listen to only three tracks that had a major impact on me; "The Gasless Billows" the first track left me with my eyes open wide and my brain seeking for the next attack, pure Black Metal at its best. "Slouching Equinox" continues the same attack on your senses with pounding drums and bass from a place where not even Satan dare not tread.
After all of that comes "Forms Become Vapor", one of the best Black Metal track I have ever listened to; not kidding you, it's so black I think it is like a black hole.
Three tracks that leave you with a wanting to taste more.
