MAGOR is Black Metal band based in Tel Aviv, Israel. The band has many years of activity. Since 2002, the group has seen many changes in the lineup which affected the band's creativity so they recorded only one demo and a single. But in 2014 the Israelis find themselves in a favorable position, because of their first album "Drawn To The Dark" which announces the true beginning.
The first track "Abject Humiliation" immediately put me in the ambiance, with impressive guitar riffs that do not escape from a search of melody and atmospheric parts. Without introduction, MAGOR imposes its identity as a band that plays a very melodic and symphonic metal, with a clear influence of the Norwegian Black Metal scene.
The compositions are very rich, with deep reflections at the riffs and the arrangements. The orchestration is a key element; in fact Lior Goldberg on keyboards adds an impressive volume to each song. In this context try to listen to "By Midnight" or "Magor". The pieces are relatively long, in fact, the duration of the album is more than one hour with songs that exceed 6 or 7 minutes. Things confirmed that the band has a tangency to give more importance and different story to each piece of this album.
The aggressiveness and the darkness are gaining ground while advancing towards the end, but the melody keeps its place with some harmonies and alternations that enriched brutal appearance. "The Reapers Darkest Hours" is for me a great piece rich with all these elements.
The production of this album is well made, which highlights the effort behind the musical work. "Drawn To The Dark" is not another Black Metal album. You'll find a very specific and personalized thing. All this is confirmed by the Outro wherein melancholic acoustic elements were put forward for a smooth end that makes you forget that this is an extreme music album.
