Crossover Thrash is an interesting genre where the bands ideally formulate a blend of Hardcore Punk and Thrash Metal. The genre itself has evolved a lot ever since some classic acts such as D.R.I, S.O.D and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES laid the foundation for it in the early 80s. However, the foretold evolution led to a lot of debates and misconceptions as people started mislabelling Thrash Metal acts as Crossover Thrash. Nevertheless, amidst the decaying popularity of this genre, we stil find some good old bands releasing newer material that resembles the 80s style. METHOD OF DESTRUCTION or M.O.D is one of the aformentioned "classic acts" that are still active today. Fronted by the infamous STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH vocalist Billy Milano M.O.D released their latest album "Busted, Broke & American" earlier this year.
Over the years M.O.D have been known for their offensive and vulgar lyricism, which ranged from sexist remarks to racism. This time around M.O.D focused their lyricism mainly on political issues. The album starts with "Eisenhower Was Right", which actually features the words spoken out by president Eisenhower during a speech. Quickly after that M.O.D unleash their rage with the following tracks, "Final Declaration" and "You're a Fucking Dick", which explode in terms of adrenaline and anger. After some speedy old-school stuff , "Hooligan" becomes a point where one might mosh the hell out, as the track itself is angry and Billy's vocals are on point. However, one might not get the best out of him as his vocals have changed a lot since "U.S.A For M.O.D", yet at the same time I was taken by surprise by his Vocals since this guy might be the only one who still showcases sheer anger and rage at the age of 53.
Shorter breakdowns and thick guitar riffs are enough to appreciate the well written instrumentation; although I do think that most of the riffs are pretty repetitive and familiar. The album reaches its top level when the 8th track "Shattered Dreams and Broken Glass" hits the setlist. I thoroughly enjoyed this track regardless the use of some familiar sounding guitar riffs. ""All Out Of Bubblegum is where the guitar work takes center stage; it is an instrumental track with subtle guitar work. The Ppolitical overtones stand high as the album ceases with yet another presidential speech, this time around from Mr. Kennedy.
Apart from some minor issues I really did enjoy the album. Recently Billy announced that this might be the last M.O.D album. I think M.O.D do have a lot more potential to produce a better album than this, so considering the fact that this might be their last album is somewhat of a pity. I hope M.O.D would record one last album so as to send off a Hardcore legend properly.
