Italian band Lunarsea stepped forward and made a dynamic entrance in the Metal scene with Hydrodynamic Wave, two years after their last release. Don't get confused by their origin, we are not talking about some traditional Italian Power Metal, but for some serious new wave Death Metal.
Lunarsea is a quite recent band. Formed from the ashes of Hollowearth, they released their debut 4-track promo Evolution Plan.txt in 2003 and a year later, after realizing the substantial acceptance of their work, Bio Ashes Halo was born, showing the first evidence towards a progressive whilst melodic Death Metal direction.
Year 2006 and Lunarsea are on their third release, Hydrodynamic Wave, a very successful combination / mixture of basic Power Metal elements with Death metal vocals and the Swedish-Death characteristic sound. Hydrodynamic Wave includes both previous releases, adding as well two new songs and it is the official debut album for Lunarsea with a well wrought artwork and a video clip for the track Beside The Driver.
The sound is a very well-resulted mixture of Children Of Bodom and In Flames, not to a degree of a major influence, but to an outcome that takes melodic Death Metal to another level. In the stand out songs in this album are Dead End Road, He Walked and Hate Net On Barren Heart, as well as the videoclip-ized Beside The Driver. I also enjoyed the instrumental Onirica Frequencies and the harsh but with clean vocals moments And The Gardens Of Jades Remained Void.
A very good start for Lunarsea, which paves roads for a great continuity and an upward course.
