Luna In Sanguinem - Global Bloodbath album cover

When an album starts with an ominous fog horn accompanied by the band replying in tune, you know you're in for a wild ride. And LUNA IN SANGUINE have created just that. The perfect blend between Death and Doom Metal that creates bone crushing riffs and are even heavier due to the slower nature they're being played at. The rancid guitar tone of Mike Eisenhauer resonates through your body like an earthquake as vocalist Skip McGullam snarls and unleashes his inner beast on opener "Hunter Killer". "Killed By The Dead Hand" handles the same pace as the band find their feet and gives you a small chorus to scream along to as the heavy riffs take control for the glorious eight minutes that it plays along for.

From "Perfect Neighbour" onwards, this is where the band really bring out their inner speed as the pace quickens and the guitars pick up pace while McGullam creates a demonic sound which even the devil himself would be in envy of. With the rapid-fire drumming of Patt Maxwell beating furiously over the morbid nightmarish music accompanying his blasts and grooves. "Angel Wings" proves that the band can switch between their Doom style to their signature thrashier style of Death Metal with the boisterous bass sound of Rod Valdez twisting with the wails of Eisenhauer's fretwork and the screeching Alexi Lahio-like screams of McGullam perforates your ear drums. "Far From The Light" is the fast paced neck-break speed song the album needed before the Doom again takes over to slow down to pound you into the ground.

From start to finish "Global Bloodbath" is exactly that. It's a powerful, meaty chunk of death metal placed onto the slab that is 2020. And with their unique tones and vocal work it makes them stand out in the field of gore as a diamond in the blood and guts of the genre. Certainly an album that would go under the radar for most Metal fans, but if you love your Death Metal, it's an album that you need to listen to before the year is out.
