Lucer - Bring Me Good News album cover

Metal maniacs, rejoice! The Thrasher returns to give you an insight; this time, on the Rock quintet, hailing from the glory of Germany: LUCER on their debut album entitled: "Bring Me Good News" signed via Mighty Music.

When it comes down to it; one's eye-catching senses will note how uninspiring the artwork for LUCER's 1st album: "Bring Me Good News" actually is...it's so simple that a 1st grader could have pulled that off! But that's when the saying "don't judge a book by its cover" comes in. Rock tends to be a genre where quartet's ideals are; to be the next AC/DC, whether or not you think more bands are needed...it's factual that we do certainly need more talent, as the greats won't be around forever. MANOWAR, TWISTED SISTER, BLACK SABBATH, KISS as well as AC/DC all announce farewell tours and it makes me wonder who will eventually take up the gauntlet, when they all bid their farewells? This is where you should support other bands - not just the big guns. However, going in with low-expectations...I'm told to give this here band a go, maybe they are bad, maybe they are good...enough rambling, let's have at it!

Right off the earphones...I'm acquainted with, well, one of "those" been there, done that kind of situations. We start with "Midnight Sun" and I don't know, but something about this production sounds too simple...while granted, every musician performs brilliantly well, I can't help but feel -a little- bored honestly. To start with; Lasse Bøgemark on vocals and bass has a typical and obvious rock intrigue that -again- feels over-saturated to certain influences, and vocals just sound a bit...boring. Anders Bøgemark on guitar showcases riffery that's a little too generic; as is mostly everything about "Bring Me Good News". LUCER seems to attract the radio music guidance of cleanliness that doesn't really pose much amazement for Metal fans. Jonathan Nørgaard on drums completes the band but their skill is simple; nice, but nothing of brilliance. Inadequately providing any evidently worthwhile music; there is not much to note, unfortunately.

LUCER seem to be a band that upgrade the OASIS influence into rock that's heavier, that basically sums up "Bring Me Good News" as an album as a whole. "Something Original", "Too Late", "Go Easy On Me", "I Don't Wanna Know" and the titular track: "Bring Me Good News" evidently showcase "nothing original" but are one of those bands that you find at a club on the piss, and immediately forget about them the next day. Nothing wrong about getting out there and showcasing your talents; though when you have a song like "Call It A Day", (another equally bland song) it makes one think that there's going to be nothing special, at least it did with me. "Million Faces", "What's In It For Me" and "Shooting Star" all share similar experiences and compels me to say that indie music kind of isn't my thing, and probably the same for other Metal maniacs who are here for that unprecedented discovery of sorts!

Nothing against the musicians; but I really felt bored of this production, the song writing was unoriginal and uninspiring, memorably and originally...easily forgotten, while the sound production was spot on, nothing was to note. Check out their Bandcamp, listen and see if you agree.<
