Lost Without Direction - Fragile album cover

LOST WITHOUT DIRECTION from Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany, released their EP, "Fragile" early in 2014. (Seriously, look at the Coat of Arms for their town, fucking metal.) The band gives a promising look at what they can do with their EP, and quite frankly, it sounds like a panic attack inside of a wet dream. It's beautiful melodies coupled with jarring interruptions and ardent vocalization. LOST WITHOUT DIRECTION is in the vein of experimental bands like ENVY or CIRCLE TAKES THE SQUARE or CONVERGED. "Fragile' takes beautiful, almost discordant, melodies and builds them up until they melt into an electrocuting rage. There are moments of peace within the tracks, but they are shortly broken by the vocalist's insane screams. Without revealing too much, the story presented in "Fragile" is about an everyday guy who has something, well, really bad happen to him (vague enough? Good.).  The story is pretty clear; the lyrics are very clear, direct in most tracks, other than "Colors" there is not use of flowery or exceptionally poetic metaphors as this particular style usually generates. It makes the story presented in "Fragile" more universal, makes the story more universal, it could happen anywhere. The lyrics translate well to the raw instrumentation that jerks your brain into a wide range of emotions, right along with the protagonist. My favorite track on the album is "Deed", in part because of its jarring transition from the more tame "Colors". Mostly though, it's due to pseudo-discord and quick time changes. The track also marks the turning point for the protagonist, you'll snap right along with him.  LOST WITHOUT DIRECTION will not disappoint fans of more experimental sub-genres of metal. It's so loud and fast that you can play it in your car and convince your friends that it's "totally brutal" while tearing up a little on the inside. It's okay, let it all out.<
