Lorn - Arrayed Claws album cover

It is May and long weekend here in Canada, I am home alone, and I throw on LORN'S new ep "Arrayed Claws". The band hails from Italy and the ep is close to about thirty-nine minutes long. I have this immediate chill down my back and I start looking around almost as though something demonic is about to appear. Shadows even become creepy. The first track is called "Disharmonic Feticism" and it lasts for ten minutes and fifty-two seconds. It starts with a quick fade in, then get ready for chaos!! There are odd time signatures, blast beats, sinister riffs, heavy rhythm, sweet effects, and a couple change ups. At about 6:53 it starts transitioning into a softer atmospheric feel. It's as if you just found your way out of the deep dark underworld and the first thing you see is the sun. It is complete and udder peace and beauty, a perfect ending to the track.

"Abstract Tra" is the second track and I'll have to explain this as four sections because the track changes as so. First of all, as a whole, the track is actually about ten minute's long give or take. For the first section the bass drumming is going extremely fast but the guitars and effects seem somewhat slower and calmer. The second section sounds like rain in the distance and a fan or possibly wind; this is the first calm section. The third section brings in the drums, guitars, and effects again. This time the drumming has slowed and now it is the guitar and effects that seem quicker. The last and final section sounds like an organ, it was less chaotic but still quite eerie. The balance in this track between chaotic and calm is pretty awesome.

"Toybodim" has got to be my favourite track from this album. It is just a little over six minutes long. The drumming is fantastic, one moment it is extremely quick and then the next it is quite slow, the transition of it was great. This is a song I could just relax to and let my mind wander.

The album as a whole is dark yet has its moments of peacefulness. It is distinct and original. There definitely was something about this album though that is hard to explain. It affected my body in a way that my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. My stomach tightened and I was frozen in a way that it was like my mind was waiting for something to happen during the music. So, I guess you can say it grabs your attention and holds it there through out. Good stuff.
