Roll up, roll up and bear witness to the debut album of the day. LOREKEEPER have released their first album titled "Lorekeeper". The artwork is a hat tip to the Fantasy sub genre that they subscribe too, along with Stoner.
The opening track "Tusk Rider" comes rolling in with some sultry bluesy riffs, and LOREKEEPER's influences become clear, most notably to me is the likeness to ORANGE GOBLIN. But the music has a very natural flow and is a well rounded performance, polished off by the wide range of John's vocal capabilities. The bluesy riffs continue into "Obelisk Throne", but the music to me is somewhat of a misnomer, with the riffs and rhythms appearing to both heavy and dense, but also light and airy at the same time... It is very pleasurable to hear!
"Dragon Wagon" rolls through and into "Trilobyte", which for reasons unknown to me, just has the appearance of being that bit heavier... Having that extra element of a bit more bollocks, it is a fantastic track and my pick of this album! This new found edge doesn't just fade with the ending of this track, "Crystal Nomad" keeps that attitude and depth about its sound.
The final two tracks will be left as a surprise for you reader. The album though is a triumph, it continues to evolve and grow with each passing song, it may adhere to the genre's stereotypes, but as the saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Fans of ORANGE GOBLIN and XII BOAR are sure to enjoy this exciting young band.
