From sunny Madrid come dark as hell LORDS OF BLACK straight from the depths of Spain's most prominent shadows. A Prog-driven Heavy Metal band that shares some Power Metal elements, LORDS OF BLACK is here with their third album "Icons of The New Days". Fronted by legend-in-his-own-right Ronnie Romero, the vocalist hand-picked to be a part of RAINBOW (side project of other legendary Rock n' Roller Ritchie Blackmore of DEEP PURPLE), LORDS OF BLACK is a wild ride for your ears. However, the band's notoriety doesn't stop there. They've appeared as a special gust act for yet another rock legend, AXIL RUDI PELL during one of their European tours.
In an interview with Metal Insider, guitarist Tony Hernando talked about the theme of "Icons of The New Days", saying it revolves around how technology is not only evolving itself and nature, but also humans and how we interact with it as well as each other. "We are witnessing every day-in real time if you will-changes that are very deep and even traumatic in our lives... way faster than many of the historic moments before that might took years or decades to understand the impact that they made..." To Hernando, we are witnessing a quicker succession of values and beliefs, new ones replacing old ones much faster than previous decades. Is it a good thing or a bad thing for the world? Hernando says that's up to you. Songs like "World Gone Mad" and title track "Icons of the New Days" speak of the state of the world and the need for taking a good look around to see what has become of us and decide what course of action to take next to ensure we thrive.
Both "Kings Reborn" and "Edge of Darkness" are angry tunes, but angry in a passionate sort of way. Arguably the heaviest tracks on the album, Romero sings with the most passion on these tracks. "Wait No Prayer For The Dying" of course has to show up and show the amateurs how it's done. Hernando's guitar is aggression-driven and, while never going off the rails, heady riffs still accelerate at breakneck speed. "All I have Left" contains many layers, moving solos and inspiring vocals.
"Icons of The New Days" by LORDS OF BLACK have proven that they have the spark, now all they need is a flame.
