LOATHING is a Death / Sludge Metal band from Warszawa, Poland.  "We Are The Hunt" is an eight track demo.  The opening riff to "I Rot Inside" is a snaking, intricate groove, with plenty of bombast and instrumental prowess. The deep, raspy vocals of Kuba are an excellent complement to the post-apocalyptic, despondent sort of sound.  In this reviewer's opinion, Death Metal can really get stuck in a rut, but LOATHING has offered plenty of morsels to my liking in this opening track.  Their sense of rhythm, timing and dynamic change is as good as anything I have heard this year in the genre.

Focusing on their riffs and the union of their instruments, there is a nice element of progression and forward thinking to their sound. In "Red Sands," there is a purposeful dissonance that permeates the brutal tendencies of Death Metal, and a well-played solo section for the guitars that make a nice pairing.  "The Ascent" hears like an anthem of sorts, with a varied vocal style that gives emphasis just where it is needed.  Trailing towards the end of the track is a nifty time change passage with an eerie, reverberating lead.

"Intravenous Black" really embodies the Sludge side of their sound.  It is a slow, grinding heaviness accentuated with some meter changes that keep it edgy.  There are even some quasi-clean vocals that appropriately break up the more brutal passages. "Promise of Change" is exactly how it sounds...a slow, more emotional instrumental piece that highlights the band's songwriting and ability to add depth and breadth of sound to the genre of Death Metal.

Closing the album is the driving, crushing riff of "Warspite". Overall, I am impressed with LOATHING's approach to their craft on this demo. Death Metal can easily be a stagnant, unoriginal style of music; with slim boundaries that many bands are not easily nudged to cross.  The ones that dare to be different, usually make a lasting impression on the listener, as LOATHING has done here.
