Loadstar - Promo 2007 album cover

It has been a pretty long time since I last reviewed a promo or a demo release. It is good to keep a good and stable relationship with the underground scene, since you never know what you will come across. There were many times I was surprised by bands I didn't even know about. Let's see what do these guys can do.

The Italian (obvious from the members' names) metallers were formed in 1985. Pretty strange, huh? And this is not the weirdest thing. What surprised me and impressed me, too, was that since then they have only released demos! No full-length albums, no EP's, no nothing! Their only releases are five demos! And it seems they were inactive for a long time since their previous demo was released in 1988! As I read somewhere, the band split up in 1988 and reformed in 2005.

It seems that some bands are willing to stay underground forever! I don't think they didn't have any chances to sign a contract since many labels have bands that are nothing more than a pile of shit. So, the Italian fellows play an old school mix of Thrash and Speed Metal with some Heavy/Power Metal influences. Their sound was pretty popular back in the 80's but it seems that they don't stand a chance now. The band seems influenced by bands like MEGADETH (Killing Is My Business... era) and early HELLOWEEN. The vocals are not like the usual stuff in this genre but the singer sings much lower. The production is underground enough to make you wonder if the band wants to keep the 80's feeling or didn't just have enough money to record this promo CD. Anyway, the rhythm section is pretty good, as it should be and the guitar work is heavy and razor sharp. The thing is that after 1-2 listening sessions the CD is starting to get a bit tiring. I definitely like 80's stuff (especially the 80's Speed/Thrash Metal scene), but I think that if you want to play something like this nowadays, you have to be extremely good in order to achieve something.

I don't know if this CD is for sale, even though I don't think so because it is a promo CD. Anyway, their official website is in Italian so I don't even know if you can order this release directly from the band. If there is such a chance, old school fans that still live in the 80's may find this CD a bit interesting. The rest of you, better look for something else.
