Deliver Us From Evil

Hey, isn't this band trying out to play something old-and-new-school together? LIPID's Deliver Us From Evil is said to deliver or to guide us to evil itself? Have not heard any of their previous recordings but - after the TRIVIUM 'typhoon' - it seems there's some shit going on in Europe too. Let aside the fact about the results...
Why is the band labelled to be playing 'Scandinavian Melodic Metal'? Yes, they come from Denmark - I'd like to visit this country at some time, to hang out with Ron Atkins (PRETTY MAIDS) or Dave Shermann (MERCYFUL FATE, FORCE OF EVIL) and also ask Lars Ulrich's father (what a beard!) why the hell his son ended up to be such a @#$%#$^ - and this current album is their sophomore effort, with 2003's Hagridden being the debut one. LIPID may wish to impersonate the Trash/Death likes of 80s bands in a more 'updated' style - mainly in terms of vocal arrangements and sound mix - and the fact is that they can manage it good enough.
The tracklist of Deliver Us From Evil brough to my mind the formula TESTAMENT had in their 90s 'brutal' career - you know, Demonic, Low and some of The Gathering - while the likes of SLAYER (of course!), THE HAUNTED (following!) and a mix of Swedish Death Metal and Bay Area Thrash sum it up to categorization. Else, there's speed, there's endless riffing - not that genuine, I admit - and there's tons of a storming rhythm section. Soren Pedersen likes Max Cavalera a lot, and why did he have to hide his admiration? I by-pass the fact that there are no high differentiations between the album's cuts - this will count in the grading! - and it's serious to stick in the musicians' technical skilss; excellent, making it such a pity for the album to have less of a personal sound and more of the 'influence' thing.
Deliver Us From Evil sees LIPID being a nice thrash/Death Metal band. Nothing more. You like it? Get it. It's not enough? Pass 'em by.
