Pulsing the blood of the new Black Metal crop we finally find our way back to the movement of the new bands, the Polish LILLA VENEDA. Gaining ground again six years after its previous release "Diagnosis" of 2012, and I confess that I was always curious to know what this band with romanticized strands could bring in the future and the result of the concealment is the masterful album of the same name released on June 29, 2018 via Via Nocturna.
LILLA VENEDA flowed in his name in honor of a Polish drama written in 1839 by Juliusz Słowacki, and of course everything revolves around the tragedy of the Wened tribe when invaded by the hostile tribe of milk. It was written after the November 1830 Revolt and somehow describes the situation of the Poles and the meaning of their history. Lechians and Weneds were Slavic tribes and everything brings life to this shimmering band within the sector.
If on the one hand the band name confronts their deep black bases, on the other, the sound of these musicians as much as giving the musical spectrum an opera resonance worthy of stage drama. You do not have to go much further to find out how powerful they may be when the album opens with "Divination," and few will be the gentler instants before the fierce guitars and Virian's visceral vocals explode in my ears in a frenzied wave of energy. "Invader Demeanor" features an aggressive drum work that vibrates between Antris' bass lines, and I really like how brief orchestration elements work here turning the atmosphere into a vortex that quickly hypnotizes the listener by keeping a hard line until the next track while the vocal work keeps throbbing in your ear.
And if what you are looking for is a band with an excellent production LILLA VENEDA quickly delivers the message and this is one of the best points to be observed about the band because considering we speak of the shrewd blend Death and Black this may sound so clean and crystal clear how much the fans would least expect but at the same time maintains the roots with raw and traditional elements of apocalyptic Black Metal. "The Witch and the Dead" is the perfect model of it, a perfect instrumentation and cutting the profusion of chaos, and you will instantly understand the black hole generated by the guitars at the hands of Antris and Kindroth.
"Serpents Bane" and "Trickster" are two pulses of brutal energy within this album, kept by their ignition engine in the hands of Andrew on drums. He features the throbbing scenery by which guitars and bass seem to hover. With a breathtaking vibe, all this brings a really different atmosphere to what I find in most albums right now where I see a lot of bands trying to create this scene in a way that gives the band the well-deserved identity, maybe I need to ask the band itself how they got on a level so profuse in these six years, the work delivered is a snake ready to attack here.
I confess that my ears are grateful to find such a dynamic work today and I can say that these musicians have managed to find the ideal formula that transforms the romanticized side embedded into something tenebrous and magnetic enough to keep any static listener while everything develops in "Wheels of Misfortune" and its pack of fast, flammable riffs, what we have here is a really epic album for this band so pretty young. We begin to approach the end and the energy of the beginning seems endless. See this in "Entropy Blaze" and all the anger in Virian's voice creates the mental scenery as the track whirls in your mind. I'm really out of breath with the frantic track-to-track and for a brief moment when "Martyranny" comes on the scene I think this will be the part where the band started to decrease the frequency. Innocent mistake, everything started vibrating again with the intensity of the first track of this album and of course the curiosity to hear this live just grows.
I believe that this band gave us a letter of honor with this album that does not transmit in its cover art all the machine-gunned content that these musicians are capable of doing, but rather, ten years of existence could provide an evolution that bands with more time pass decades seeking. And do not think you'll close that album down by some kind of slowdown, "Chmury" will give you the checkmate and thirst to wait for the next albums of this profuse and dynamic band. I'm pretty sure that the most rooted fans in the industry still wring their nose at the industry news but obviously Death and Black in one way or another just keep royalty from the chaos inside the Metal.
Raw, rude, with atmosphere or without, the black sectors only gain strength and finally they gain the place that they have always deserved within the metallic scene, and if on the one hand the disagreements of opinion arise by another the more traditional bands continue to stand up while the new and modern sediment the foundation and prove that the more chaotic sides of the Metal have always maintained a level of strength that all others will never reach, they were just waiting for the right moment to attack, the time is now!
