Old rockers all over the world, unite! At last an album for all the 70s music fans. Here you won't listen to electronic loops, blastbeats, brutal vocals or any of this modern stuff. Rara Avis is pure Rock.
Even though I tried hard to find anything about the band's past and their history so far, I wasn't able to. The only thing I managed to find out, and only because you can see it at their MySpace page, is that they are from Sweden. Not much, eh? Well in the bottom line, that's not bad, since music is what all is about! So let's see what these four rockers' debut album sounds like.
From the time I pressed the play button, I realized that these guys know how to Rock. A late 60s-through-mid-70s atmosphere was all around. Their influences obviously are bands like LED ZEPELLIN, THE WHO and, from the newest blood of rock, THE BLACK CROWS. And in some points you will think that they steal the previously mentioned bands and especially the ZEPs. The easiest thing to do is to grab my gold shovel and start saying that they lack originality, that they step on paths that others walked long before them and that they play safe. But when you are listening songs like Come On, Keep On Moving and Grab A Star you can't do something like that. Solid arrangements and nice, trippy melodies combined with the proper lyrics (like: ...squeeze my lemon, make me smile...) for an album like Rara Avis make it flow without realizing it.
This album was a big surprise for me. After the last song I thought that I was back in the future, ha ha. A really nice album for all the old hard rockers, LED ZEPPELIN fans waiting their new album. The first flight of the LEMON BIRD was a success. Let's wait now for the next one.
