The mix between Heavy Metal of the 80's with the melodic feeling of Hard Rock of the 70's allowed many bands to have a personal approach during the 80's. But even today this formula can be used and the results (when there are true feelings and inspiration) are always good. Obviously many just copy what was already done, but those that dare to create something personal, as the case of the trio LEGIONS OF THE NIGHT, from Germany. Their first album, "Sorrow is the Cure", is really a great experience!

The trio are musicians with lots of experience, with passages by names as DAWN OF DESTINY, MAYAN, METALIUM, FIREWIND, GAMMA RAY and others. And the band's music is form of traditional Heavy Metal from the 80's with traces of the Hard Rock from the 70's, and some Progressive Metal influences. It's similar to the way SAVATAGE used to play on "Gutter Ballet" (1989), "Streets: A Rock Opera" (1991) and "Edge of Thorns" (1993), but with a personal insight, full of energy, with a melancholic and sad feeling, and with very good melodies and a theatrical touch (due the very good interpretative vocals), and with everything playing in their due way. Yes, it's truly excellent.

The band brought Dennis Koehne to make the mixing of the songs of "Sorrow is the Cure". And everything is really sounding great, clean and defined, with very good instrumental tunes. The sonority really allows the band to express its ideas as they must be. So it can be said that everything is working in a very good way.

The songs are really excellent, and all of them can satisfy the listener. But for a first time, the melodramatic weight of "Train to Nowhere" (very good vocals and keyboards parts), the elegant melodic appeal of "Lie" (the very good and heavy work on the bass guitar and drums make the eyes fall to the ground), the 80's energy that flows from the harmonies of "Find the Truth" (very good guitar riffs), the deeper and introspective "Someday Somewhere", the Hard/Glam elegant touch shown on "We All Walk Alone" and "Pay the Price", and their version for SAVATAGE's old classic "Sirens" (excellent vocals, guitars, bass guitar and drums, working as an unity) are the best ones.

"Sorrow is the Cure" is really a very good release, indeed. And let's hope that it won't be the only release of LEGIONS OF THE NIGHT.
