Towards the Inevitable

Teloch Vovin

This album was just “meh” for me, and the poor production stopped it dead before it could even get off the ground. The elements you want in the genre are there, but there was just nothing special about the music at all.

TELOCH VOVIN is a Black Metal band hailing from New York, USA. Although they formed in 2011, they have only one full length release under their belt. There was no EPK included in the promo, so we are going to have to let the music do the talking. The album has seven songs.  "His Creation Reversed" is first, and it's a leading mood-setter. Frightening tones occupy the background with a heavy bed of electronics, and it's short, segueing into "The Rite Ov the Harvest Pt 1 The Rite of the Reaper's Blade." The raw production is immediately evident, and there is too much treble in the mix. It takes away from the bite of the aggression of Black Metal. The vocals rage, and are mostly high-pitched screams, but there are also some gutturals here and there. "Samael Lord ov the Second Death" is another creepy offering that uses singing from a common church hymn, and it's a filthy, slow-moving song of death and desolation.

"Gamaliel – Spectrial Gem ov Southern Skies" is a short, two-minute interlude of clean guitars with a heavy, somber feeling. The light rain falling in the background is the perfect back drop for the music. "A Dirge to the Death ov Life, Love and Hope Pt 2: Nothing, No-One, Nowhere" has a bit of an amateur quality to it, which I suppose adds character to the song, although the slow-moving song revels in both darkness and desperation. The meaty bass notes are a nice addition, and that's something you don't often hear in the genre. "Forward…to the inevitable" is a short, one-minute march to the death, and the drums reflect the marching pattern. "Panzer First" is the final song, and it's a massive beast, at just under 16 minutes. The opening tones border on Death Metal, and from there are additions of orchestral instruments. Rounding the halfway mark, however, it seems like the band is looking for directions.

This album was just "meh" for me, and the poor production stopped it dead before it could even get off the ground. The elements you want in the genre are there, but there was just nothing special about the music at all.
