Good day Metal-Temple. Fans of old school Heavy Metal rejoice, this new album by LEGION should fill your need for good old 80s style Metal. This band saw light in the 90s, but didn't release an album until 2005. This is only their second album since their debut, but it's clear that these guys were influenced by the Metal of their starting era. The whole album feels like a trip back in time.
The album opens up with "On The Pale Horse", starting with a bang and going right into the depth of the subject. With a coat of classical Metal riffs and a subdued drum track, they leave space to the guitar melody right away. The vocals aren't without comparison to the 80s Hair Metal bands.
"Gypsy Dance" and "Bricks of Egypt" both utilise a lower vocal pitch, but the same crazy amount of guitar riffs. They clearly want to make that their selling point and it is working for them very well. Nevertheless, the vocal track also is laid down very well, with some crazy laughs to put the emphasis on the attitude of the band.
We get a taste of good old Rock Ballads with "When Life And Spirit Divide" and "Luna". These slower-paced and emotion-packed tracks will bring back old high school memories to any nostalgic out there.
This is an album for anyone who wants to relive the 80s, or those who want to live it for the first time. With LEGION you'll find your fill of Heavy Metal for sure. I just wish the production value was a bit higher; it might have been what they were looking for though, but I would have loved a clearer sound on vocals and some guitar tracks.
I definitely recommend that you try out this sample of LEGION. They did an amazing job bringing the 80s back to us. If you are looking for new material from that era, look no further.
