Legen Beltza - Need To Suffer album cover

Probably what I like best about Metal, and Thrash Metal in particular, is bands that derive their influence both from European and American Thrash. For almost eleven years the Spanish group of LEGEN BELTZA have been doing just the thing. With a violent nature at their side, these guys released their fourth album, a self-release, which bared the name "Need To Suffer". For what it looks and sounds, these guys are in the right direction.

For thrashers and Metalheads in general, "Need To Suffer" has almost anything to offer, even some bits of growls. The great mix of European Thrash, more like German Thrash like KREATOR and SODOM of the 80s-90s with its extreme nature, and American Thrash, the greater part of the Bay Area movement on its NWOBHM influences and melodic scenery, made LEGEN BELTZA to create some wonders on this one. On more than a fair share of the material, and unlike many old school refined thrash bands, LEGEN BELTZA go out with breaking passage while displaying melodies, creative solos and a heavy large piece of rhythms.

That is why I can safely say that this band seemed to try not to repeat itself through the tracks. Almost each and every track around here was placed in order not to mimic the others and has a personality of its own. However, I can't say that this group are pioneers as the follow the 80s & 90s spirit. Yet, these guys got the right "fist in the face" kind of an attitude for the sub-genre.

Another best part of "Need To Suffer" is that it was handled by the German producer, Andy Classen. Classen, which took care of some of his local DEW-SCENTED's albums and other projects, did a wonderful job for the Spanish group. The sound he massed for the album is superb, especially the guitars that channel unavoidable power with its chunky features. However, I think that as Classen intensified the guitars, he somewhat forgot about the vocals of Xanti Rodriguez. The guys Petroza like voice isn't that strong and probably on the production he should have been in the frontline instead in the middle.

In overall, "Need To Suffer" is a great Thrash outcome. As many bands that old school is their favour, LEGEN BELTZA really stepped out of the rawness and into a more ordered kind of music. That are still strong and brutal as the others but their material is a lot more inspiring that a lot of the stuff that is on the streets these days. I would certainly put my money on this album.
