How would you react if you were holding an album from a band totally unknown to you and the cover had a sticker that said that the album features guest appearances from bands like RAGE, ARCH ENEMY, IMAGIKA, NOSTRADAMEUS, CALLENISH CIRCLE and CARDINAL SIN? I think that you would have exactly the same reaction that I had. Too bad that most of the times that something looks incredible and kick-ass the band is not as good as it seems.
LEGEN BELTZA come from Spain and they were formed in 1998. I do not even know what the fuck LEGEN BELTZA means and I don't know if it is Spanish. The band's first demo Ziztu Bizian (1999) secured them a contract with IZ Rock, where they released their debut album in 2001. After one more album in 2003 (which was mixed by Jeff Waters) and a best of compilation in 2005, LEGEN BELTZA released their third studio album entitled Dimension Of Pain.
So, if you try to guess their style just by the guest appearances you will probably be confused. Let me explain that LEGEN BELTZA is a Thrash Metal act. As I said above, unfortunately the album is not as good as its guest appearances show. The sound is pretty good and the guitars are heavy, but the drums some times have an irritating sound, especially when the drummer plays some blasts. The riffing is too common and the vocals are not the best I have ever come across. The band's weakest point is in my humble opinion the drummer. This guy's technical abilities are very good but his composing skills are definitely not so good. He plays some blasts and some stupid rhythms at moments where they do not fit at all! The band's lack of inspiration is more than obvious in this album. Even the guest musicians don't seem to be able to save the day.
If you have listened to many Thrash Metal stuff in your life you will definitely ignore this album. As for people who have not listened to so many stuff, better go buy something else like TESTAMENT or DEFIANCE to see how Thrash Metal really sounds like and then think about giving a chance to this album. Otherwise, just ignore it as well.
