Legacy - Legacy album cover

I ultra dig the cases some fine labels come up with hidden gems from the past. OK, today is today with virtually everything the current fan needs back when some blast from the past strike hard then it's confirmed our music had, has and will have a lot to offer as long as there's true passion and honest in an outfit's compositions.

LEGACY begun back in 1987 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio and created quite a stir as a White Metal band in the USA, opening - among others - for EZ, SHOUT, SACRED WARRIOR and ALLIES. Lack of a record deal and lineup typhoon changes probably wasn't the best medicine while aching for some wider recognition, hence the early 90s saw LEGACY's hiatus. Media promotion was pale - but not absent, though - and it took not much time to succumb to the inevitable. The band called it quits and their legacy was what the fans now have the chance to digest:

A wonderful Hard/Heavy album with driving guitars, great melodies and hooks and some inspiring harmony vocals building an easy-doing set of songs followers of bands like DOKKEN, SAINT, Rob Rock, STRYPER and ARCH RIVAL shall engulf in a gratified smile. Most of the songlist consists of mid-pace tempos and the rhythm section sessions are simple yet powerful. The guitars are on of the aces in "Legacy" being sharp and razorblade but dressed in a wide sense of melody; axemen like George Lynch, Oz Fox, Rex Caroll and Axel Rudi Pell shall probably cross your mind listening to the riffology in this 60-minute CD.

The production/mix is very good, too, paying tribute to the late 80s days but surely applicable to today's standards. Minor objections would sum it up to the lack of variety in speeds in the album, making it uncomfortable to pay attention to the whole collection of songs at once if not a trained ear. Also, the vocals of Doug Meacham sound somehow in the background at times, omitting a portion of the singer's power...but that's probably just some small nagging.

If your sport is finding elusive diamonds from the past and was always keen on the riff-based side of melodic Hard Rock/Heavy Metal (with a thin slice of FM Rock/AOR perfume) made in the USA in the 80s, don't make a mistake and let LEGACY pass by. This is a great offer from a band that sadly did not make it but luckily preserve its myth via this 'bonny' CD. "Legacy" will surely be a good companion for the next years!
