LAST VISION BLACK are a progressive metal outfit formed around 1993 in Holtsville, NY on Long Island. They have released only one demo, a three-song EP in 1994. This a remastered version of the 23-year old cassette, clocking in at 15 minutes.
The 1st track "Just The Same" starts off with nice crunchy riff, reminiscent of the good old days of FATES WARNING, it also sounds surprisingly fresh and modern for something released two decades ago. The vocals are very much akin to Geoff Tate and Ray Alder, two of the most amazing singers in the genre. The song has some very memorable moments and makes me feel guilty for never hearing of these guys. The 2nd track "The Shadows Wall is slower in tempo and more along the lines of QUEENSRYCHE, it has a beautiful chorus, some very inspiring solos and just tremendous vocal lines. It is both melancholic, tragic and beautiful all at once.
The final track "Left In The Hands" is also an amazing jewel, this time Scott Oliva reminds me a lot of Michael Kiske (of HELLOWEEN fame), we get some faster melodies, and here the singing shines through so much. He definitely shows off his pipes, and not to say he overshadows the music, but it brings back me back to the days when I discovered power metal, and the diversity those vocalists showed back in the day. Bar none, this is a lost treasure in the realm of progressive metal and I am very happy I got to review. Fans of FATES WARNING, SANCTUARY and QUEENSRYCHE, you are in for a treat.
