Last Days Of Fall - Saints And Sinners album cover

LAST DAYS OF FALL is a German based band who released their album "Saints And Sinners" earlier this year. The album is pretty short with only seven tracks but that's quite alright with me. You see, LAST DAYS OF FALL are Metalcore. For those of you who read my reviews (what's up Sarah, Jessica, Mom!) you know how much confusion and pain that genre brings to my ears. If I were to conjure Pinhead, part of my masochistic torture would be Metalcore. I mean, it's a great genre with many talented musicians in the mix, yet it always finds one specific way to disappoint me.

You know the phrase "too many cooks spoil the dish?" That's what I think every time I hear Metalcore vocals.  I'm enjoying a nice, hot, savory meal of meaty drums, hearty bass and spicy vocals. Then, out of nowhere some motherfucker has to dump a load of sugar and suck on it (I may or may not be writing this while cooking dinner). At least LAST DAYS OF FALL's clean vocals have a bit of bite too them, a bit more on the Grunge side of the musical spectrum so it's a little less irritating. Some of the lyrics make me cringe as well, they are so cheesy I won't be able to shit right for days. For example, part of the track "Contaminated" has the lyrics "I can't ever pay the price to pay and you won't ever make me say how many times I realized I so fucked up!" I can't help but read the lines "I so fucked up!" in a California valley-girl accent. The track "Saints" has the line "That's how you turned from an angel...into a bitch!"

The word "bitch" has such a Freddy Kreugar-esque inflection to it that I can't help but laugh. "Saints And Sinners" isn't a bad album though all things considered; even if there are some really, really irritating aspects to it. The instrumental elements have a bouncy vibe that begs you to flail like a madman. Each track is riddled with kick-ass guitar effects and some really intense breakdowns that serve as good distractions from the vocals and lyrics. LAST DAYS OF FALL's "Saints And Sinners" is a great album if you like Metalcore. If you don't, well it's kind of like the first hand-job you ever received: the idea sounds great, it's fun when it first starts, but ultimately leaves you unsatisfied and aching.
