Lamb Of God - Resolution album cover

If there is one Metal band that can almost always be counted on to deliver the goods to fans in terms of uncompromising brutality; that band just might be LAMB OF GOD. Now I'm not saying this as a hardcore LAMB OF GOD fan, because to be honest; I'm not. I'm saying this because these guys have proven themselves time and again in the almost two decades they have been around. I regard LAMB OF GOD as being one of the hardest working bands in the history of Heavy Metal, and with a legion of fans consistently supporting them; It's not hard to see why they have been so popular over the last decade.

My introduction to LAMB OF GOD was like most others with their 2003 breakout hit "As The Palaces Burn". At a time when similar sounding bands were running rampant, LAMB OF GOD's raw, under produced sound was hypnotically fresh at the time. Not to mention the absolutely killer riffs have become one of the band's hallmarks. With their epic 2004 follow-up "Ashes Of The Wake"; the band made it clear that they were going to be around for a long time.

Now let's fast-forward to the present day, shall we? It's clear that LAMB OF GOD are still around, still playing hard and heavy, still very popular, and still sound pretty much the same as they have all these years. With their brand new album "Resolution" being released this past week; we're to expect big things from this record. Especially since it has been said that this album will be more reminiscent of the two albums I mentioned earlier than their more recent work.

I personally haven't heard those last few records, so I cannot comment on whether or not that is true, but I can tell you that "Resolution" does sound very much like "As The Palaces Burn" and "Ashes Of The Wake", and has all the heavy-as-fuck riffs that fans could want. Basically this record has what you would expect from LAMB OF GOD; awesome guitar work, Randy Blythe's obligatory "Scream, Growl, Repeat" shenanigans, and raw, low fidelity underproduction. Essentially all of your LAMB OF GOD food groups are there.

I must admit that I do tend to get annoyed and bored with screaming vocals quite easily, so I can't bitch about the vocals on this record because, well... It's LAMB OF GOD. I knew what I was getting myself into. Looking for clean vocals here is like going into Victoria's Secret looking for men's underwear... never mind. The main thing is that I also know that the supreme riffages would more than compensate for the monotonous vocals, and believe me, it did. My only legitimate complaint about the sound was the drums, which sounded totally flat and unpronounced on this record. The bass finds it way in just the right places and sounds heavy enough.

The album is totally monotonous pretty much the whole way through, so picking out the best songs is pretty much a task of finding the ones that actually stand out as not sounding like all the others. For me, these would be "The Undertow", "Insurrection", and "King Me". The first single of this record "Ghost Walking" has a cool acoustic intro, and there are a few little interludes here and there that add a tiny bit of variety, but 90% of it is pure, non-stop, LAMB OF GOD madness exactly as you would expect it. So it's rather hard to complain about unless you don't like the band. In the event any of you haven't heard them before check out the single on YouTube and decide for yourself if you dig it or not. That should pretty well sum it up.

Overall, I like this for what it is; a solid metal album. It is by no means anything great or particularly memorable, but it sure as hell will have you headbanging at least once if not the entire time. If not, you might want to go listen to LMFAO or LADY GAGA as that might be more your style. Wuss.

Any true Metalhead should have a good time with this record. After all, Isn't that what it's all about? I thought so.
